After what felt like weeks of nonstop rain here in Central PA, we finally caught a break with a sunny Sunday — perfect timing for our ride to Knoebels.
We planned to meet up around noon at the motorcycle parking area just as the park opened. Once everyone arrived and helmets and gear were off, we made a quick stop for lunch just inside the park. With stomachs full and energy high, we hit the rides.
Highlights of the day? Definitely The Phoenix — rated the best wooden coaster in the country — and the always thrilling Twister. Both lived up to their reputations and delivered the kind of fun that leaves you grinning like a kid again.
But the day wasn’t without its challenges. The sun was relentless, and the humid heat had everyone feeling the burn. It even got the best of someone in line, who passed out from the heat — a stark reminder of how brutal mid-summer sun can be. That was our cue to find some shade and track down some cold drinks and frozen treats.
As the afternoon wore on and the ride home loomed, we made the long trek back to the bikes and said our goodbyes. Most of us peeled off in different directions, but Beth and I weren’t done just yet. Since we skipped the ice cream at the park, we made a stop at Riddles Ice Cream in Penns Valley. Totally worth it — and we’re adding it to next year’s Ice Cream Ride schedule.
Despite the heat, it was a great day of riding, coasters, and reconnecting with folks we haven’t seen in too long. Here’s to more sunny Sundays ahead.
