The weatherman promised 72 and sunny for the last Saturday of March—need I say more? With a forecast like that, Marty sent out a text to the club, inviting everyone to join him for a ride. In the end, only Chris and I took him up on the offer. We met Marty at 11:30 at the Sheetz on Shiloh Road, ready to hit the road with Rayauda’s in Beaver Springs as our lunch destination.
While the day didn’t quite deliver on the perfect weather forecast—thanks to some sporadic raindrops and cloud cover—it’s hard to complain when you’re on two wheels. Any time spent riding is time well spent. We set out on 26 to Pleasant Gap, then took 144 over to 45 in Old Fort. From there, we followed 45 east to 235, which dropped us right onto 522, leading straight to the restaurant.
The special of the day? A ham dinner. HAM DINNER! The very meal that eluded us at our last club meeting at Sunset West. We had to chuckle! We had a great lunch and even better conversation, both amongst ourselves and with an adorable great-grandfather and great-grandson in the parking lot.
After refueling ourselves, we headed back via 235 to 45, then into Millheim where we picked up 445 north to 192, then to 64. We rode 64 back, which turns into 26, before veering onto Houserville Road to drop Marty off in Lemont. Chris and I continued on University Drive (which becomes Whitehall) to Tadpole, then took Gatesburg, Marengo, and Smith roads home.
It may not have been the picture-perfect day the forecast promised, but it was still a fantastic ride with great company. The local roads are in great shape; it appears they’ve all been “street swept” following the long, cold winter. Gravel, be gone!!!
Looking forward to the next one and more folks joining us!
