March 2025 – Meeting Minutes

Mid State Riders of PA Chapter Meeting
Sunday, March 9, 2025 @ 1:30 PM
Sunset West Restaurant, Pleasant Gap, PA

Attendees: Lisa Naperman, Dan Naperman, Marty Mondock, Jay Bartlett, Ed Glantz, Randall Bock, Tara Mondock, Beth Clark, and Chris Clark

The March meeting began with a discussion of Joe Travini’s proposed “Flying Taco/Towanda Tour,” with four dates suggested and Saturday, May 31st ultimately chosen.

Marty shared that club sign-ups will now generate a confirmation email sent to him that will include a new member’s answers to the engagement questions.

Marty also noted that BMW MOA has not yet sent out a mass email announcing our launch. This is disappointing; without this publicity from MOA, recruitment rests solely on our shoulders.

It was mentioned that MSRP members do not need to be members of BMW MOA, which may work to our advantage when recruiting non-BMW riders. It’s worth noting, however, that the club did need 10 members to launch and will need 5 active members to renew.

Chris and Beth talked about their visit to the “Winter Cycle Therapy” event at the Glenn Curtiss Museum in Hammondsport, NY on Sunday, February 23rd. Chris, having attended once before, noted the event seemed smaller than before; both agreed that regardless of size, it was still a fun daytrip! While at the event, Chris and Beth met Jeff Martin, who is both president of the Long Level Beemers of upstate NY and a regional coordinator for MOA. Beth snagged one of the Long Level Beemers “handlebar hangers” which promotes the club, including one of their standing events – summer ice cream runs!

Beth advocated for poaching the summer ice cream runs idea and talk quickly turned to the desire to devour the delicious dairy treat! (Which almost everyone did following lunch, by the way!) MANY local ice cream joints were mentioned. Beth will work to schedule them to rotate between north, south, east, and west of State College. We agreed that we’ll shoot for Wednesdays, but that we’ll use the club’s group text to monitor the weather and may pivot to a Tuesday or Thursday as forecasts dictate.

Talk turned to tires and Marty made mention of Kissell’s price matching to online prices. When you can, please do support our local BMW dealer!

Dan asked the group where they were buying accessories these days. He was asking specifically about Sena components, but also generally, too. Revzilla in Philadelphia was briefly discussed with most agreeing that they’ve gotten expensive in recent years. Most offered a simple Google search as the best way to start with Amazon and eBay often being viable options. Chris and Dan both commented that they’ve had good success with Rocky Mountain ATV, too.

Beth reminded the group of the open house event planned at Hermy’s BMW in Port Clinton on Saturday, March 22nd. Don’t forget – the event description on Facebook includes the following note: “We'll be serving a delicious hot breakfast around 10, so make the trip out and enjoy food, in store specials, exciting new models, and hopefully some warmer temperatures!”

Beth mentioned that Ted from MOA had provided her with the “moto man” file, which she will incorporate into the club logo. She plans to provide the logo and other marketing materials to Marty, Tara, and Chris to review by midweek.

We discussed the Soggy Bottom Motofest in July in Port Matilda – that the club should offer to handle the sport-touring routes for the event as a way of giving back to the event. We would like to “table” at the event – display our banner; distribute flyers, handlebar hangers, and stickers; answer questions about the local area; and generally engage with riders to recruit new members. We (Marty?) need to contact Josh to make this offer and ask for this opportunity.

Everyone was encouraged to JOIN THE CLUB (https://bmwmoaf.givingfuel.com/midstatepa). Once you do, you will be added to the private Facebook page and to the club group text.

The next meeting is Sunday, April 13, 2025. Details are forthcoming as the plan is to visit the Motorbike Day at the Museum at the AACA Museum in Hershey, PA.
